This is a snapshot of my Aunt Nanette, Aunt Gloria and my Grandmother Dorothy. It was taking before Dorothy's death. Aunt Gloria remarked once that Dorothy may have already been ill in this picture. I believe that it would have been taken in the 40s.
I asked Aunt Gloria when she removed the picture from her album and gave it to me, "Why were all of you dressed up?"
She said, "we weren't dressed up. That was just an ordinary day and how we dressed every day."

Well, they certainly show me up, sitting here as I am in my (good) jeans, tshirt and slippers. Especially Gloria, with her flower corsage. Perhaps it was a Sunday?
I think sometimes we have forgotten how much fun it can be to be dressed nice, but then I have 3 kids and 4 animals (now) and those beautiful dresses would not look like that at the end of the day. Your family is beautiful!
It is lovely to see how fancy the dress was back then. I especially love to see black men in hats. Warms my heart!
