I can not believe that this is my first picture of the socks I am making. I am up to 5 inches. I have four more to go before I bug my knitting co-workers about turning the heel.

I am working on a new granny square blanket
I became interested in this design some time ago. I like the square withing a square design. I am thinking that I will use up all the yarn making these squares using tapestry technique. I hope that I haven't bit off more than I can chew. The technique may be overkill for this design but I it is certainly easier to change colors.
My coworker gave me a bunch of OLD acrylic yarn. Think Wintuk, Sayelle and Dupont. He found it in his mother's house when he prepared it for an estate sale. I gave the majority of the yarn to the Prayer Shawl ministry at the church.

The tulips have certainly lifted my mood this week.
There are so many; I love it.
I did some digging in my yard and discovered that I am infested with grub worms.
I have never seen so many in an 8 inch square foot of lawn. This means war! I have quite a bit of sedum that I would rather have as a front lawn. The grubs don't seem to bother the sedum.

The Peonies are getting ready
Grape Hyacinth
I had forgotten that I planted these hyacinths in the yard last fall.
I am glad that I hadn't bothered to get the lawn mowed last week.

Finally, I saw this goose on my way to my car last night. You can't tell by the picture but the goose is paddle against the strong current.

I have a friend, Dino, who I have not seen in years. I try to keep in touch by phone and online.
I have him in my messenger.
I chat with him when he is online.
Lately, I have noticed that he is often idle.
Idle for hours.
So, I stopped looking for him online and started attempting to contact him by phone.
Each time I have called, the line has been busy.
You are probably wondering why the line indicates a busy signal.
Eh.
I don't begrudge anyone who doesn't pay for the call waiting service. In my opinion call waiting equates to a rude interruption.
Consider it. I am in the middle of a phone call and this annoying tone jars my thoughts. If I do not respond to it another will soon follow. I have to make a decision. Do I interrupt my call and flash over to the disrupting caller? Argh.
I avoid these decision on the house phone. It does not have call waiting or three-way calling.
Knowing this, I did not find it odd that Dino was on the phone whenever I called. I knew that I would catch him one day.
Recently, I needed to chat with him. Many things had occurred and I wanted to catch him up on my life. More importantly, I wanted his opinion of VW. Yes, I am still pining for that guy.

I would call.
Busy signal
I would check for him online
Idle
Then it hit me like a turtle walking a snail.

I called him while he was online.
Busy signal

I declared

DUDE IS STILL USING DIAL-UP

Time to party like it's 19 - 99.
And for that reason, I must make fun of him.
Especially if he is using AOL

I can't add today's Easter blooms because I cannot find my camera.  I will note for you that the tulips opened up this morning.
I will also update on my lightning shawl when I find the camera.

Be her carnal bomb

Friday, April 22, 2011

Today's spam title: Be her carnal bomb.
First line of the message: It is important not to mix up deep depression with short periods of bad mood or sadness!

Well. Who can disagree with that? Wait. What?

Oh I get it.The statement translates to: It is important not to confuse deep depression with less serious forms of depression or perhaps it means:
Don't be dramatic about your temporary bad moods

Hmmm.
I liked that advice. I could also take that to mean "Don't Sweat the Small Stuff."

It made me pause.
Have I been letting the small stuff take over my thoughts lately?

Ever since Spring got here, my sleeping has been worse. But that is not driving me crazy. It is just making me annoyed.

I have still been able to maintain my workout schedule. Although, I have seem more inclined to cheat on it than I did in March.
I resolved this by adding Reeses cups to my lunch box every day. A friend suggested that I do not deny myself a treat. Doing so, just makes me want to over indulge. She is correct.
There have been several times since February where I purchased an 8 pack of Reeses cups and I had 8 wrappers lying about my legs and feet before I got home.

I am serious...

I have a problem with Reese Cups. I have since I was a kid. I can't stay away from them. I try not to buy bags of them. I don't give them away for Halloween. I don't buy the Reeses Eggs during Easter. They are my weakness.

At least I haven't stopped with my exercise program. I pushed through with it during Winter and now Spring. I just need to keep it up. My goal is to be a size medium by my 40th birthday. I have the outfit selected. I just want to look cute in it. I should admit that thinking about my upcoming birthday has been stressful.

In a few weeks, my niece graduates from High School three states away. Somehow I have to manage getting down there and back then leave for a conference two weeks later in Chicago. My birthday is 30 days after that conference. Oh. And I can't forget my sororities signature event is next week.
As president, I have both excitement and worry regarding its potential for success. I hope that I am sane enough to entertain my table of ten guests.

So to recap. In two weeks, I have the sorority event. Five hundred guests. Thirty models. Three scholarships. One afternoon. My aunt and I bought a ticket for my grandmother to attend. Since it is the day before Mothers Day we are calling it her present.
In 5 weeks, my niece graduates from High School in Georgia.
Six hundred and fifty miles. Twenty relatives from out of town or more. Two nights stay in a hotel. One more niece to go (in 15 years)

In 7 weeks, I might be headed to the conference. Somehow, I need to find registration fees, hotel fees, meal costs and travel

AHHHHG!

Not to forget that in 3 months, I turn 40.
I think I might crack after all. Hell. I think it explains my recent bout of acne that began this Winter (still not resolved)
When I went to the dermatologist he said, "It [the acne] makes you look younger."
Still not sure how I should feel about that comment.   The doctor needs to do whatever magic he can to clear up my skin by my 40th birthday.
Moving on....
So I go back to this email that I found in my Spam folder and read it for inspiration.

It is important not to mix up deep depression with short
periods of bad mood or sadness!

  Dear Frizzy

Even if your sex life is already rich and fulfilling... Imagine you had a little more energy... if your erections stayed harder... or you could go just a little longer...
Or maybe you worry, when you climb under the covers, that you’re starting something you can’t finish?
Well, now advancements in natural medicine are making it easier than ever to promote a strong libido, firm, natural erections and enhanced desire.
OH GAWD.
I had forgotten that I don't have a boyfriend and therefore no sex life.
What need did I have for that stupid email? Now if feel depressed....
I know that I will get through the next few months. I just don't know how.
Sigh...... Well.
No point in brooding when there is chocolate and wine to be had.

Let's look at today's flowers

I snapped this picture the other day of the cats.
Fuzzy the kitty formerly known as Little Cat and Halle the wonder kitten

What were they seeing? What commanded their mutual attention? What made a rambunctious kitten stop in her tracks, sit and ponder?

You guessed it. The Travelocity Gnome. Here he is in the window  that lights the upstairs hallway. I wonder what he is telling the cats. I hope that he is warning them to stay off the furniture.

Be careful of the hudlooms/scammers

Boost Your Loving Charge

The daffodils were preparing themselves last week. The crocuses are gone.
This is me trying to grow grass. I have determined that I have a yard full of grub worms.  I scrapped all the dead grass and leaves and found mostly dirt and grub worms. I decided to seed rather than treat for the worms. I bet that I will regret that action very soon.
Look what I found this morning.
And here she is!

Need a doping for love?

We initiated 18 new members into the sorority this Saturday.
These are the gifts that I made for the new members

I made corsages. Used some bead work to make them sparkle. Some corsages had red, purple, yellow, white or green beads. I used a gold colored 20 gauge wire. The flowers came from Micheals. I had to purchase 12 violets springs to create the corsages. Because the stamens were white, I had to color each of them with yellow paint. I don't think that I will ever do this again. I am tulled out for the time being.
The middle corsage was crocheted using mercerized cotton.

Our Learn Benefits

Wednesday, April 6, 2011

"Our Learn Benefits" is probably one of the funniest subject headings that I have found in my junk and spam folders so far. It is for an online pharmacy.

I was clued into this announcement by some of my RL friends.
Apparently Throwback Pepsi is here to stay. BUT WHERE CAN I FIND IT????

Rare Michael Jackson Pepsi Commercial

Well anyway,
The Glory of the Snow have appeared and the daffodils are getting ready to smile at the sun.

Would anyone like to come over and clean my house?

Like to drill for hours?

More flowers.
Lilac and purple crocuses in my lawn. I think the Glory of the Snow decided not to show themselves this year or the squirrels found and ate all of the bulbs. I am quite bummed about the missing flowers. Unless of course the Midwest weather may continue to behave unpredictably and there could still be snow this April. If that were to happen, I would welcome the flowers. As of right now, I fear that they have missed their chance to make me smile.

I have gathered egg shells and slug bait for those slimy strawberry eaters. I will have lots of strawberries this year. I am very excited.
I am rubbing my hands together in anticipation of
Operation No Slugs Mo' Berries.

This weekend, I drove around town trying to locate things. I had to leave my sorority program in order to greet the ATT Uverse installer. I also babysit for Trey.
FYI AT&T Uverse is amazing. There is a Barbie channel.
How can you not love that?

What I wanted to do more than anything else was to sit down with my new remote on my comfy couch while drinking some Throwback Pepsi.
I have several of my friends, on the search for the soda pop.
I have searched Rite Aid. I have braved various shop and robs for the refreshing drink. I have stopped at gas stations. I have been eyed suspiciously at discount stores as I walk in, walk around and walk out without purchasing anything. I checked Walmart. I checked grocers.
I can not find it.
Yesterday, I spotted the Pepsi guy at the grocery store.  I approached him cautiously.
"Excuse me, sir. "

" Yes"
"Have you delivered any Throwback Pepsi recently?"

I wanted to feel like that little kid again, drinking Pepsi with better flavor. I want my Pepsi Generation back.

Side note: It is not right seeing Alfonso dancing like MJ, he will forever be remembered for the Carlton dance.
Back to my story.

He stops stacking Pepsi products to motion towards a huge Pepsi display that is partially obstructed by a stand of Hawaiian Bread.
"There should be some at the display over there."
Excited, I head over to the display of cases of pop.
Standing in front of the casebook display, I slowly scan the various colors of Pepsi products designed in such a way as to promote the upcoming minor league baseball season.
Go Mudhens!
I scanned it twice.
There was no Throwback Pepsi.
I run over to the pop aisle to question the Pepsi guy about other lcoations where he may have delivered Pepsi.
He was GONE
GONE
I believe that he had purposefully sent me on a wild goose chase.
I feel so used.

Someone should make an app for that....

I spent the other half of my weekend looking for silk violet sprays from which to make 18 violet corsages. That was a tall order. Violet sprays are pretty difficult to find. Where I did find enough to make 15 violets corsages, I could not complete the order with the same shade. I went all over town to all the locations of a chain craft store.  In the end several will be mixed with light purple flowers. I tried my best...
If I had had the correct Pepsi, I would have driven across the border.
