I saw this post from 8/20/2007 and felt that I should be reposted.
Today is the second day of classes where I work. It has been a madhouse. As I look over student records I am seeing date of births that include 1992, which is the year that I pledged my sorority. I was a junior and I was on the four year plan. At the end of that summer, I lived with my father and seriously thought about my life. I dated a guy ten years older than me. I entered Fall 1992 with a plan to attend graduate school. Good thing, too.
I had been fielding questions from family members who wanted to know what I planned to do with a degree in Sociology and a minor in Pan-African Studies. I didn't know either.
When I go home tonight, I think I am going to have a eight dollar bottle of beer.
To the archives after the jump.

Former University student pleads guilty in bank robbery
News STAFF
READING, Ohio - A former University of City student has pleaded guilty for his role in robbing a bank July 17 in this Hamilton County city, authorities said.
Andrew Butler, 20, of Cincinnati, pleaded guilty Monday to two felony counts of aggravated robbery and six felony counts of kidnapping and is in the Hamilton County jail in Cincinnati without bond. He will be sentenced Dec. 27 and could face up to 20 years in prison, according to a bailiff for Hamilton County Common Pleas Judge Steven E. Martin.
Butler, a former U freshman majoring in theater, was on summer vacation at the time of the incident, according to U spokesman. His mother has contended that her son needed money for college tuition and other expenses.
"He just really was struggling, working two jobs here, you know, temp jobs, two jobs and trying to get the money," Franki Butler said this summer.
About 12:30 p.m. July 17, two men robbed the Valley Central Savings Bank of an undisclosed amount of money, Reading police said.
After the robbery, the men were seen changing vehicles in the Lincoln Heights area about two miles northwest of the bank. Later in the day, Cincinnati police officers spotted a vehicle matching the description of the one the men used last.
Officers stopped the vehicle and found Butler and Christopher Avery, 22, also of Cincinnati, inside and took them to the Reading Police Department for questioning. During the interview, both admitted to the bank robbery, Reading police said.
Still later, Reading police served search warrants at the men's respective residences and recovered a handgun and a shotgun believed to have been used in the robbery as well as most of the money taken in the robbery, officers said.
At the time of the incident, Avery was a student at the University of Cityb, according to his attorney.
Avery, who also pleaded guilty Monday to two counts of aggravated robbery and six counts of kidnapping, is also being held in the county jail without bond, pending his sentencing in court Dec. 27, the bailiff said.

Sunday, August 19, 2007
Classes started here today.
I have been pretty busy and working late since last week getting ready for the new students.
I learned that this year's freshman include young people who were born the year that I graduated from High School.
I knew that this day would come.
I thought that I would be ready for it.
But I am not....
Send Puerto Rican Rum....
The website where I found that picture wrote that in today's dollars that computer would cost $13,800........

Feeling Safe
Wednesday, June 20, 2007
I first noticed this sign a few weeks ago. I did some investigation. It seemed that during a recent tornado warning staff were not permitted to leave the campus but few new where the safe places were located. So the university designated funds to purchase and install these signs.
I love working here. The administration is very responsive to our needs.
The signs make me laugh
First, my ex-boyfriend at Kent State University liked to call himself “Hurricane.” He had a theme rap song, sound effects and movement for nickname. On notes, he would draw a logo. The logo looked exactly like the tornado on the sign. I used to tell him that he was drawing a tornado and not a hurricane and he would always remind me that hurricanes have a center and consist of spinning winds. He probably still draws the UNIVERSALLY recognized tornado image and calls it a hurricane.
Writing on tornadoes, I now feel that everytime there is a thunderstorm I hear the sirens. I am beginning to dislike Doppler. Doppler compels the meteorologists to “cry wolf.” I find the sirens to be distracting. Like the terrorist threat level color alert system that I used to have streaming on my desktop a few years ago. I remember the days when the “Warnings” did not broadcast until someone actually SAW the tornado. My irritation comes from warnings based on the rotations that can be seen on Doppler radar but don’t actually make a tornado. So there are more "Warnings" but the same number of real tornadoes. Now imagine a new institutional policy that requires everyone to remain where they are during a warning. ARGH!
The signs all by themselves are comforting. Don’t you think so? Don’t you just want to take it off the wall and hang it on your bedroom door? No, imagine if you were a college student. You want it now, don’t you? Well, so did about 20 other college students. These signs that were meant to save our lives during a tornado warning are now used to identify the rooms of horny jocks and frat boys. Oh, those college pranksters. Yes the same ones that will steal my parking permit, office signs and public ashtrays. I wish that they would just chalk up the sidewalks and leave stuff on the walls alone. Soon, these signs will be painted on the walls.
I am always surprised by the stuff that is done to make our lives easier and safer but backfire.
On another random thought. I am in love with my DVR although I despise Dish Network service. Because of my dvr I have been turned onto The Office, Scrubs, House and Boston Legal. Great Shows! Have me wetting my pants laughing so hard. I have also discovered Enterprise and Angel. although very lately.
